It's 100% possible and plausible.The Vedas are taught and understood just like in the ancient times.
Its all because of the greatest grammarian and linguist Panini's Ashtaadhyaayii, which is a grmmar of the both Vedic and classical Sanskrit languages.
The great commentetor of Panini Patanjali , while enumerating purposes of grammar sets '' security of the Vedas'' as the first one.
Being a Mantravid you are supposed to be a knower (vid) of the hymns
